In October, ALUCAT personnel traveled to Port Tanit, Mauritania, in connection with the delivery of the ALUCAT® W18 DCTOP professional boat. The vessel is designed for rescue and oil spill response operations, and the boat project was carried out in cooperation with the Danish company DESMI.n kanssa.
An important part of the visit was to ensure that the future operators of the vessel became familiar with both the boat and its equipment. ALUCAT personnel provided training to the Mauritanian Coast Guard crew on the operation, handling, and maintenance of the vessel, while DESMI's experts were responsible for training related to the oil spill response equipment installed on board.
On-site operational training
ALUCAT® provides operational training for the vessel’s crew upon delivery whenever required. The purpose of the training is to ensure that the crew is thoroughly familiar with the vessel’s features and can operate it safely. In Port Tanit, the training included practical exercises, familiarization with vessel handling, and hands-on training in the use of the vessel’s equipment. DESMI personnel, in turn, trained the users in the operation of the foam monitor installed on the vessel, as well as other oil spill response equipment.
W18 DCTOP for Rescue and Oil Spill Response Operations
The ALUCAT® W18 is a trailerable aluminum catamaran designed for a wide range of applications, including rescue operations, governmental and authority duties, and professional workboat use. The model features approximately 18 m² of flat deck space, a payload capacity of around 2,000 kg, and an overall beam of 2.48 meters. The hull length is approximately 8.8 meters, and the draft at full load is approximately 0.52 meters.
The large open deck provides ample space for oil spill response equipment, rescue gear, and transported cargo. This particular vessel was designed specifically to meet the operational requirements, preferences, and operating environment of the Mauritanian Coast Guard.
Foldable Console Facilitates Transportation
A distinctive feature of the W18 DCTOP model is its foldable helm console. The console can be lowered flush with the deck, making the vessel easier to store and transport, particularly on a trailer. The vessel delivered to Mauritania was also supplied with a custom-built ALUCAT trailer specifically designed for this boat.
A Thank You to Our Hosts in Mauritania
The visit to Port Tanit was, above all, a collaborative project involving the future operators and DESMI. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Mauritanian Coast Guard for their warm welcome and outstanding hospitality. We also thank DESMI for the excellent cooperation throughout the vessel project and for their participation in the operational training.
ALUCAT® professional boats are always designed according to the user’s operational requirements and operating environment. The W18 DCTOP delivered to Mauritania is one example of how the vessel’s structure, equipment, and transportation solutions can be integrated into a functional and efficient overall package.
