ALUCAT® as a Company
ALUCAT® - Our Story
The Origin of the Catamaran Boat
he design of ALUCAT® catamaran boats began in 2003 in Pieksämäki, Eastern Finland. The project team included competitive powerboat racers and leading boating experts from various professional user groups. The goal of the project was to create a completely new, next‑generation catamaran‑hulled multipurpose boat for professional use.
The project team decided to utilize the catamaran hull structure proven in competitive powerboat racing. The future boat was required to meet even the most demanding professional user requirements across varying conditions and applications. The first prototypes were built from plywood, and testing of the designs continued for several years until the optimal structural solutions were found.
In 2009, ALUCAT® Oy was founded around this new type of boat innovation. The company’s mission was to offer safer, more economical and more versatile boating solutions for a wide range of applications through cutting-edge technology.

THE FIRST MODEL
The company’s first boat model was the aluminium‑hulled ALUCAT® W600 catamaran, which was primarily marketed for governmental use. In addition to the catamaran hull structure, a distinctive feature of the boat was the opening bow ramp. The first public appearance of the new model took place at a governmental trade fair in Dubai.
Introducing a new catamaran‑type boat model to a market traditionally dominated by V‑hull boats proved challenging, and sales could not be expanded as widely as initially hoped. Nevertheless, the new aluminium Alucat catamaran attracted significant interest, also internationally.
In 2011, Alucat Oy’s boat manufacturing was relocated to Ylihärmä, where the ALUCAT® W600 catamaran boats entered serial production. A number of boats were sold for professional and governmental use in Finland, although larger international orders were already emerging on the horizon.
TO YLÖJÄRVI
In 2013, the business operations of Alucat Oy were transferred to Ylöjärvi under the ownership of the family‑owned company Suomen Säiliönpääty Oy, where a smaller so‑called “everyman’s” catamaran boat had already been under development for a couple of years. under the ownership of Suomen Säiliönpääty Oy, where a smaller so‑called “everyman’s” catamaran boat had already been under development for a couple of years.
After the business acquisition, this boat was designated as the ALUCAT® W460 (later ALUCAT® W8). These boats have been manufactured and delivered to satisfied customers both in Finland and internationally since 2015. In addition to recreational boaters, they have been sold particularly to fishing guide companies, authorities, and boaters with reduced mobility.

BREAKTHROUGH
The ALUCAT® W8 catamaran boat was selected as one of the world’s best fishing boats at the global Best of Boats competition in 2017, held in Berlin, Germany.
ALUCAT® catamaran boats have been successfully developed for demanding professional use over the past five years as part of the business operations of Suomen Säiliönpääty Oy. Authority and professional workboats are the strategic focus area of Alucat Catamarans Oy, which was spun off in May 2019. Recreational boaters also have the opportunity to benefit from this professional-grade quality without compromising on safety.

A STRONG PRODUCT FAMILY
The ALUCAT® catamaran product family currently consists of boat models in four different size categories. The Alucat W10, W14 and W25 models are available in dozens of different configurations for a wide range of applications. The number in the model designation indicates the square meter area of the flat, unobstructed deck space, which in professional use is far more relevant than the overall length of the boat.
The manufacturing of ALUCAT® catamaran boats has been concentrated in a new production facility completed in December 2019 in Ylöjärvi, near Tampere. The new factory enables the start of large‑scale serial production driven by strong growth in demand and sales.
