ALUCAT W16 for the Kymenlaakso Rescue Department

Last autumn, the Kymenlaakso Rescue Department commissioned two ALUCAT boats: the W16 DCTOP and W10 DCTOP rescue vessels. This week, they will receive their third vessel.

W16 DCTOP for rescue department operations

The ALUCAT W16 DCTOP has been designed for rescue operations in Kymenlaakso. Excellent manoeuvrability, outstanding stability, and ease of movement onboard were key factors for Kymenlaakso when selecting the vessel.

The W16 catamaran offers a completely flat and unobstructed deck area of 16 square metres. The deck is self-draining and equipped with an aluminium non-slip surface. An electro-hydraulic bow ramp enables quick landing on almost any shoreline, and the 1.44-metre usable width is sufficient for stretchers and rescue equipment. Additional deck space can be quickly and easily created when needed by removing the equipment storage units, allowing, for example, an ATV to be carried on board.

Twin Mercury 115 hp engines provide sufficient power for the vessel while maintaining good fuel efficiency for extended operations. The draft at full load remains at approximately 51 centimetres, enabling operations even in shallow coastal waters.

DC TOP cabin: protection without restrictions

The DC TOP cabin model has been selected for this vessel with the rescue department’s operational needs in mind. The cabin features a foldable canopy and a weather protection cover, while the sides and rear remain open. This open design allows for fast, easy, and unobstructed movement onboard.

In rescue situations, fast and easy movement onboard and disembarking from the vessel are critical, and movement within the boat must not become a limiting factor. Accessibility is therefore an essential and defining feature of our boats, and all our models are designed without thresholds. With the DCTOP cabin model, the crew remains protected from the weather thanks to the covers, while still staying connected to their surroundings.

The DCTOP cabin provides both weather protection and easy mobility onboard.

Quality assurance before delivery

ALUCAT tests each vessel multiple times before delivery, covering equipment, performance, and fuel consumption. Every boat undergoes sea trials prior to handover, and customers also have the opportunity to inspect and test the vessel before final completion. The Kymenlaakso Rescue Department also carried out their own sea trials and inspections at our factory.

Before delivery, ALUCAT boats designed for professional use also undergo quality assurance carried out by an external inspector. The inspection covers structural integrity, safety equipment, and compliance with workboat regulations. Each of our customers receives a documented and inspected vessel.

Second delivery, same customer

W16 and W10 delivered to the Kymenlaakso Rescue Department in autumn 2025

The Kymenlaakso Rescue Department’s third ALUCAT order will leave our factory on Friday, June 5, 2026. The W16 DCTOP is a vessel that has met our customer’s requirements and proven reliable, which is why they chose to order this new boat from us as well.

We will also deliver our new W30 series vessel to Kymenlaakso in autumn 2026. The vessel is designed particularly for oil spill response in addition to rescue operations. We will share more information in the autumn and introduce our completely new boat model at the same time.
